The passage of the 2000-2001 State budget saw the significant
transformation of one of New York's best economic development tools -
the Economic Development Zones - into a better and more competitive
one. New York's Economic Development Zone's will now be known
as Empire Zones (EZ) and may be virtually tax-free zones in
"best-case" situations. The EZ Program is targeted to attract and encourage businesses to grow in
82 of New York State's distressed areas. The program has spurred
investment and created thousands of new jobs across the state. Locating your business in the Broome
County EZ may be the perfect choice for your company to start or expand. The
Broome County EZ includes portions of Binghamton, Endicott and Johnson
City, the Town of Union and Kirkwood. The EZ program offers
incentives designed to attract new business and retain existing businesses. Businesses making
investments and/or creating jobs in the zone are eligible for EZ certification.
